For the first time, the nation’s leading, research-proven support for school leaders—NCEE’s NISL Program (formerly the Executive Development Program)—will be available to individuals and small groups via a national, open enrollment virtual cohort that will launch winter 2021. The national cohort will take place entirely virtually, eliminating the need for travel and allowing education leaders from around the country to participate in rigorous professional learning with like-minded peers.
Participants will gain a framework to view their school against top-performing systems, will study and apply a strategic thinking model, and learn how to organize their school and instruction based on the leading research on systems design, organizational leadership, creating professional learning communities, how students learn and leading for equity. They also will gain a network of peers that will provide an ongoing resource beyond the program. Additionally, upon successful completion, participants have the opportunity to earn credit towards an advanced degree through NCEE’s relationships with partner universities.
Participants are not the only ones to benefit from NISL. Third-party studies have shown that instruction actually improves as a result of school leaders’ participation in the program, and that student learning increases on state tests across school levels.
The national cohort is the ideal opportunity for school leaders and districts who have long been interested in the NISL program but have not had enough participants to create their own cohort or whose geographic location made participation a hurdle.

On Tuesday December 1 at 3:30 p.m. ET. NCEE will host a virtual information session that will provide an inside look at the NISL national cohort. Led by NCEE’s Eric Jones and Janice Case, attendees will gain insight on the NISL curriculum and experience first-hand the engaging virtual learning environment. Attendees will also hear from recent graduates of the NISL program and be given ample time to ask questions. Register for that information session here.
The NISL program consists of 12 units, with each unit delivered approximately monthly. Each unit typically consists of three four-hour sessions across three consecutive days. NCEE anticipates that the national cohort will launch in January 2021.
This cohort will be delivered virtually, using web conferencing tools and our proprietary NCEE portal. Schools and districts from coast-to-coast have participated in NISL’s new virtual delivery, and have provided overwhelmingly positive feedback about their experience and the effectiveness of the delivery model.
