Tom Shelton is the Director of External Relations and Partnerships for the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) in Washington DC. In this role, he supports the CEO and EVP by leading the efforts to collaborate with varying national and international organizations and programs through coordination of the organizational relationships, their related projects, and associated convenings in order to assist in the promotion and fulfillment of the NCEE mission.
Prior to joining NCEE, he served as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents. Previously he had served in school district administration for over twenty years, including serving as superintendent in Daviess County Public Schools and in Fayette County Public Schools in Kentucky.
Tom holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Murray State University. He also holds a PhD in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Louisville. In addition, Tom holds postgraduate certificates as follows: (1) Executive Educational Leadership from Harvard University, (2) Leading Organizations and Change from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and (3) is currently enrolled in Business, International Relations, and the Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Currently, he serves as a member in the Global Education Leaders Partnership (GELP), the International Congress of School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI), the American Education Research Association (AERA), and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).
