Singapore’s meteoric rise to the top of the PISA rankings has been well documented and its highly professional, well-educated and strongly supported teaching profession is the primary driver of that success. From initial teacher education and ongoing professional learning to collegial working conditions and a sophisticated career ladder, Singapore’s system of teacher development is second to none.
Recently, NCEE spoke with educators and leaders throughout the system—from an aspiring teacher in the nation’s only teacher preparation program, the National Institute of Education (“NIE”), to the Director-General of Education.
