Overview
The leading support for school leaders in the country—NCEE’s NISL Program—will be available to individuals and small groups via a national, open enrollment cohort. The virtual cohort allows education leaders from across the country to participate in rigorous, proven professional learning with like-minded peers.
The standard district-minimum cohort threshold of 20 participants is waived for this cohort, presenting a unique opportunity for both current and new partner districts. Current partners may use the national cohort to address school-leadership turnover, prepare district staff to support NISL leaders, or take the first step to creating or bolstering local NISL facilitators. Smaller districts that may not have an adequate number of school leaders to fill a cohort can now support small numbers of current and aspiring school leaders with NISL.
Participants will gain a framework to view their school against top-performing systems, study and apply a strategic thinking model, and learn how to organize their school and instruction based on the leading research on systems design, organizational leadership, creating professional learning communities, how students learn, and leading for equity. Participants will also gain a network of peers that will provide an ongoing resource beyond the program. Additionally, upon successful completion, participants have the opportunity to earn credit towards an advanced degree through NCEE’s relationships with partner universities.
Districts and participants are not the only ones to benefit from NISL. Third-party studies have shown that instruction actually improves as a result of school leaders’ participation in the program, and that student learning increases on state tests across school levels.
The national cohort is the ideal opportunity for school leaders and districts who have long been interested in the NISL program but have not had enough participants to create their own cohort or whose geographic location made participation a hurdle.
