On December 3rd, the OECD will release the results of the latest Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which tests the reading, math and science proficiency of 15-year-old students around the world. Each administration of the exam has a special focus on one of the three domains, and this administration the focus was reading proficiency. In 2009, the last time reading was the special focus of the PISA exam, US reading performance was at the OECD average, while scores in Estonia and Germany were similar and even worse than those of the United States. However, while the U.S. has shown no improvement in reading since then, Germany and Estonia have greatly improved their scores and are now among the top-performers on PISA. What will the PISA 2018 results show for the U.S.? Will we remain stagnant or decline? Or will we finally see an improvement?
