Jason Dougal on the Future of Montana’s Workforce

Jason Dougal, President and COO of NCEE, testified before state lawmakers on the Montana Financial Modernization and Risk Analysis (MARA) Study Committee regarding Montana’s education system and its ability to prepare students entering the workforce. His testimony showed how the U.S. education system developed to meet the needs of an industrial economy in the early 20th century—and how it now struggles to meet the needs of a rapidly globalizing economy built on advanced machine learning. He offered suggestions for what students need to know to graduate ready for high-paying jobs that can compete with workers all over the world, as well as the most advanced intelligent machines. And he offered the MARA Study Committee suggestions on how to begin building the coalition needed to redesign Montana’s education system for today and tomorrow’s economy.
