Focusing on the future is difficult when educators are pulled in so many directions. Effectively transforming our current system into one grounded in 21st century science requires school communities to rethink their current practices and to imagine new possibilities.

NCEE’s Superintendents Alliance and Leaders Collaborative will come together to envision the needs of future learners and the role of schooling. Leaders from all levels and from across the nation will collaborate while exploring research and enhancing leadership practices.

Join NCEE as superintendents, district leaders, school leaders, and teacher leaders come together in San Diego to:

Reflect and Consider: The context of this year has included the changing needs of students, educator shortages, ChatGPT, and so much more. Now is the time to stop, reflect, and consider what this all means for the next school year and beyond.

Explore the Research: With this context in mind, we’ll explore research about learning and learners and what is needed in terms of environment, relationships, and pedagogy.

Examine: What do we know about learners? Based on the research, we’ll explore the Knowledge (core academic learning), Skills (capacities and strategies that enable learners to apply knowledge), and Dispositions (behaviors and ways of being that contribute to learners fulfilling their potential) that learners will rely on in a future workforce to include the ever increasing role of AI/Robotics.

Understand Shifting Needs: The Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions that are currently held by educators at all levels won’t be enough. Instead, we will have to adapt alongside our learners in the face of the research and the future trends. This requires dedicating time to understanding the shift needed and charting a course accordingly.

Ask Big Questions: While the challenges are immense, they offer unprecedented opportunities for transformation. To that end, we’ll reflect on our current efforts and the implications for change fueled by the research, what we know about learners and educators, and ultimately our beliefs about the purpose of schooling both now and for the future.

Look Ahead:Our learning wraps up with space to work with your team or colleagues from the Alliance and Leaders Collaborative to map the implications for this learning on your plan as you move forward. Likewise, we’ll overview the learning progression for both groups for the 23-24 school year.
